Jackie (1947) and Dick Thompson (1947) embody the essence of Highlands LoveBirds, their story a testament to enduring love and community dedication. Their connection began through Jackie’s older sister Carol, intertwining their lives from a young age. His junior year, Dick left high school to serve in World War II. He joined the navy, serving on a Landing Ship Tank (LST) in the Pacific Ocean. Upon his return, his classmates dubbed him “Vet,” a nickname that first intimidated Jackie. However, after graduation, Dick’s charm won Jackie over, dispelling her doubts and marking the beginning of their romantic relationship. Despite attending different universities, they dated on their respective campuses while maintaining their strong bond. After getting married, the Thompsons embarked on their life together in Lexington, where Dick pursued his MBA. Once he completed his studies, they returned to their roots in Fort Thomas, where they raised their three daughters. Both Jackie and Dick became pillars of their community, actively volunteering throughout Fort Thomas and participating in the HHS Alumni Association. Their love story extended to the next generation as they joyfully embraced their roles as grandparents to five grandchildren, all of whom were raised in Fort Thomas.
