Kelly (1987) and Kevin Hergott’s (1987) story started like many, in the halls of Highlands High School. They met at the beginning of their junior year and quickly hit it off. Kevin was a standout athlete, playing running back and linebacker for the football team, while also running track and playing basketball. Kelly cheered her junior year and was part of the Guys & Dolls program. Both were on Prom and Homecoming Court—classic high school sweethearts.

They graduated in 1987, tied the knot six years later, and are celebrating 32 years of marriage this summer.

Kevin’s athletic career continued after high school when he accepted a football scholarship to the University of Indianapolis, graduating in 1992. He was later honored with an induction into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 and was featured in Bill Thomas’ Fort Thomas Highlands Football publication.

After high school, Kelly found herself on the sidelines once again, but as a cheerleader for the Cincinnati Bengals. She even performed at Super Bowl XXIII in Miami. Around the same time, she entered the Miss Kentucky Pageant and finished as first runner-up in 1990. Not long after, in 1991, she graduated from Northern Kentucky University.

Together, Kelly and Kevin raised four children. Brandon (2014), Austin (2016), and Taylor (2017) all graduated from Highlands, while Cameron graduated from Beechwood High School.

Brandon was a three-sport athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. He started college as a wide receiver at the University of Cincinnati before injuries cut his football career short. He went on to graduate from UC’s College of Business.

Austin played basketball early on in high school, but his heart was always in football. He earned a scholarship to Central Michigan University, where he graduated in 2020 with a degree in Sport Management. He later earned his MBA from Thomas More University.

Taylor brought her creativity and school spirit to the first HMS Dance Team and later the Highlands Dance Team. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP program with a degree in Fashion Design.

Cameron, the youngest, made his mark at Beechwood. He played both football and basketball, and in 2020, was named Mr. Kentucky Football—one of the highest honors in the state. He’s now a redshirt junior playing football at Eastern Kentucky University while pursuing a degree in business.

For the Hergott’s, Highlands isn’t just where they met, but is a reminder of their memories, friendships, and milestones. Kelly, Kevin, and their kids will always look back on their time as Bluebirds with pride.

The HHS Alumni Association wishes the Hergott family continued happiness and prosperity for years to come!
